CI Cares: Getting Involved, Giving Back

Author: Erin Donohoe

Continuity Insights continued its tradition of giving back to the community at the Continuity Cares event. This year, the volunteer team traveled to the St. Peter Indian Mission School and was able to make a big impact in a short time (see page 40). Cheri Umlauf offered her skills in the computer lab, teaching students how to create animated PowerPoint presentations complete with sound. Clyde and Lorraine Berger developed a multi-day photography project featuring digital cameras donated to the school. They taught students how to use the cameras and helped them throughout the day if they had technical problems. Roland Johnson was our “mad scientist,” visiting classrooms to talk with kids about science topics of interest. Buffy Rojas worked with the older students on a writing exercise to get them interested in writing and develop their skills in creative storytelling.

Outdoors, a scrappy construction and improvement crew went to work. From cleaning up landscaping to constructing a shade cover for the school’s activity center (photo on page 22), the folks involved endured sunburn, blisters, and even cactus prickles to lend a hand and give back to the community. Many thanks are due to all who toiled away in the desert sun to bring a little shade to the students.

Two New CI Events Coming Your Way: 2009 e-Conference and 2010 Management Conference

The Continuity e-Conference (see page 29) is tailor-made for those of you whose travel budgets have been slashed. We’re bringing CI to your desktop. The three-day electronic conference will feature an exciting key note speaker, in-depth breakout sessions, online networking, and a chance to interact with vendors. The e-Conference will be held September 22-24, 2009 and costs just $195 to attend!

Next up is the 2010 Continuity Insights Management Conference, which will take place April 12-14, 2010, at the Sheraton New Orleans. The conference theme “What’s Now? What’s Next?” reflects CI’s commitment to delivering the most current, cutting-edge topics and speakers. The call for presentations is now open. To submit, visit www.continuityinsights.com.
