The Healthcare/AMC DRP-BCP Consortium:
Sun, 05/15/2005 - 8:00pm
The walls of emergency planning for hospitals are beginning to expand and in some cases must be torn down and rebuilt. The challenges of current and future disaster recovery (DRP) and Business Continuity (BCP) planning, particularly for academic medical centers, increase exponentially as organizations must assume well beyond the walls of the traditional hospital environments to associated universities and their research centers.

Planning considerations across hospitals and universities must be consistent and follow the same standards and models. So what is different about the future of planning in this industry and how does it contrast with the private sector (finance, insurance, and manufacturing) in light of the expanding set of possible risks? The unique set of challenges of healthcare and academia demand a broadened scope of emergency planning that includes business continuity and disaster recovery planning. This presentation will discuss:
·         Current status of BCP/DRP,
·         Future of BCP/DRP,
·         Unique challenges,
·         The concept of a Healthcare/AMC Consortium devoted to BCP and DRP,
·         Case studies from panelists (Temple, Johns Hopkins, and Partners).
