In December, The Los Angeles Times reported that Australia experienced an increase in the spread of a Tamiflu-resistant version of the H1N1 virus among humans during its recent flu season.

No H1N1 cases have been confirmed in the U.S.

Meanwhile, new cases of the H5N1 bird flu have emerged in Asia and the Middle East. H5N1 deaths in Vietnam and Cambodia are linked to contact with poultry.
