PlantCML, an EADS North America company, today announced its selection by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to provide The Communicator! NXT emergency notification system. This award will supply NASA with unparalleled critical communications capabilities, enhancing emergency response and employee safety enterprise-wide.
With approximately 90,000 employees, contractors and visitors occupying its facilities daily, NASA requires the most advanced notification solution to quickly alert individuals and rapidly assemble teams in an emergency. Situations may include security threats, fires, inclement weather, evacuations and building lockdowns. The Communicator! NXT system will enable authorized personnel to deliver critical information or instruction via voice and text using multiple communications devices (e.g., landline, cell phone, smartphone, pager, email, etc.). The application will also provide feedback to NASA officials, facilitating faster, more informed decision-making.
The Communicator! NXT system will reside in PlantCML’s ISO-certified and SAS 70 audited hosting centers, giving NASA secure access to sophisticated infrastructure for notification. Through these geographically diverse, state-of-the-art facilities, application resiliency and data redundancy will assure round-the-clock readiness for rapid, accurate communications. In addition, NASA will employ PlantCML’s Self Registration Portal (SRP) to capture contact information for the thousands of visitors received every day. Upon entry of a NASA building, individuals will be asked to supply their cell phone number to receive voice and/or text messages should an emergency occur.
“Serving the notification needs of numerous federal agencies, we fully understand and are able to meet the requirements of these mission critical organizations,” said Bob Freinberg, vice president and general manager of PlantCML’s notification solutions and services (NSS) division. “We are proud to receive this award in support of NASA’s communications initiatives.”
Utilized by hundreds of public and private organizations worldwide, The Communicator! NXT system is the notification solution of choice when communications demand the highest levels of security. Having successfully completed rigorous testing, it has achieved numerous prominent accreditations and meets the requirements of the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC), and Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) 4-021-01, among several others.
Offering the industry’s only full-circle security and communications portfolio, PlantCML also supplies NASA’s John F. Kennedy Space Center with its Sentinel emergency call processing solution. A customer since 1999, Kennedy Space Center relies on the Sentinel solution to facilitate 9-1-1 call taking and dispatch processes. The Sentinel solution provides unprecedented Automatic Number Identification/Automatic Location Identification (ANI/ALI) capabilities and integrated Automatic Call Distribution (ACD). Allowing for single-button call transfers, extensive speed dial, call conferencing and automatic setup, dynamic status update of all active calls and more, its use enables fast, efficient emergency response for safeguarding occupants of this highly critical facility.
